Started working with adults with physical and mental challenges in 1993 at Washington County ARC in Maryland. Worked in their homes caring for their day to day needs. Worked at Anita Lynn Home, MD (now STAR Community) helping the residents in their day program duties. Started teaching therapeutic riding lessons in around 1997. She is familiar with and capable of several types of mounting techniques including the use of lifts. She has worked with all types of mental, emotional, and physical challenges: Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Delay, Multiple Sclerosis, ADHD, PTSD, trauma related behaviors, accident or injury related challenges, and learning disabilities... just to name a few.
Started riding in 1982 at a hunter jumper barn in Virginia Beach, VA (Where the jumping bug hit her hard!). Moved to Maryland in 1984. Joined the United States Pony Club and rose to level C3. Competed up to the Preliminary 3-Day Event Level. Was a working student for a former Olympic 3-Day Eventer. Has been teaching regular and therapeutic riding lessons off and on since 1997 at STAR Equestrian Center in Hagerstown, MD; STAR (Shangri-La Therapeutic Academy of Riding) in Lenoir City, TN; Whispering Meadows Ranch in Flagler Beach, FL; Blazing Hope Ranch in Dayton Area, TN; Wildwood Stables in Crossville, TN. Became a Registered Level Instructor through PATH in 1996. Also continuing to learn through STAR (Lenoir City, TN) and Unplugged Ministries in Pikeville, TN how to apply natural horsemanship to her skills.
